SRD SASSA Login 2026: How to Access srd.sassa.gov.za

Searching for an "SRD login" page? Here is the part most people miss: the SRD R370 grant portal has no username and no password. You "log in" with your South African ID number and the cellphone number you used to apply, then confirm with an SMS one-time PIN. This guide shows exactly how to do it — and how to fix it when the OTP never arrives or the portal says your application can't be found.

The only official SRD login

srd.sassa.gov.za

Only the .gov.za address is run by SASSA. There is no separate "account dashboard" and nothing to sign up for. Instead of a username and password, the portal recognises you with three things:

  • Your SA ID The 13-digit ID number you applied with.
  • Registered cellphone The same number linked to your application.
  • SMS OTP A one-time PIN texted to that number.

How to log in / access your SRD application

The same steps work whether you want to check your status or reapply and update your details. Your status is assessed every month, so you'll repeat this each month to see the latest outcome and payment date.

  1. 1

    Open srd.sassa.gov.za

Type the address directly into your browser. Do not click links from SMS, WhatsApp or search ads — only the .gov.za address is the real portal.

  2. 2

Choose what you want to do

On the homepage pick "Application Status" to check this month, or the reapply / update option to confirm or change your details.

  3. 3

Enter your 13-digit SA ID number

This must be the exact ID number you used when you first applied for the SRD grant.

  4. 4

    Enter your registered cellphone number

Use the same cellphone number that was linked to your application. This is what the portal uses to recognise you — it replaces a username and password.

  5. 5

Receive and enter the SMS OTP

SASSA sends a one-time PIN by SMS to that number. Type it in to confirm it is you. Never share this OTP with anyone.

  6. 6

    View or update your application

You can now see the current month’s status and payment date, or review and update your personal and banking information and submit.

Note on identity checks: since 1 September 2025 SASSA has added a mandatory face-scan / liveness verification (e-KYC) step when you update your details on the grant system. If you are prompted to scan your face, follow the on-screen instructions in good light — it is part of the official process.

Login problems and fixes

OTP not received

The SMS can be delayed when the portal is busy. Work through these in order:

  • Don't spam multiple OTP requests — tap "Resend OTP" once and wait a few minutes.
  • Confirm you're using the exact cellphone number registered at application.
  • Make sure you have good signal and your SMS inbox isn't full.
  • Restart your phone and try again.
  • If the number is no longer yours, you must change the linked number first (see below).

"Application could not be found" / details not found

This almost always means the ID number or cellphone number you typed doesn't match SASSA's records — or there is no SRD application for that ID. Re-check every digit of your ID, and use the original phone number from your application. If you have never applied, there's nothing to log into yet: submit a new application on the same portal first.

Your phone number has changed

If you no longer have the registered SIM, you can't receive the OTP — so update the number first. On srd.sassa.gov.za use the contact / mobile-details update option, enter your SA ID, choose a reason and complete the identity check. Once the new number is linked, the OTP will be sent there.

Beware of fake "SRD login" sites

Scammers build lookalike pages to harvest your ID, cellphone and OTP. SAnews has officially named these as fake data-harvesting sites — do not enter anything on them:

  • srd-sassa.org.za
  • srdsassagov.co.za

Red flags that a site is fake:

  • Any .com or .co.za lookalike address — only srd.sassa.gov.za (.gov.za) is real.
  • Altered or merged spellings of "sassa" and "gov".
  • It asks you to create a password or pay a fee.
  • It asks for your OTP, PIN or banking password.

The SRD grant in 2026, in brief

The SRD grant pays R370 a month for the 2026/27 year (held to 31 March 2027). To qualify, your monthly income must be under R624. Applying, checking your status and changing your details on srd.sassa.gov.za are all free. Because the means test runs every month, an "Approved" one month doesn't guarantee the next — re-check each month.

Frequently asked questions

What is the username and password for SRD SASSA login? +
There is none. The SRD portal does not use a traditional username and password. You "log in" with your 13-digit SA ID number plus the cellphone number you registered at application, and you confirm it with a one-time PIN (OTP) sent by SMS. If a site asks you to create a password, it is not the official SASSA portal.
What is the official SRD login website? +
The only official SRD portal is https://srd.sassa.gov.za. Anything that is a .com or a .co.za lookalike, or has altered spelling, is not run by SASSA. SAnews has officially named srd-sassa.org.za and srdsassagov.co.za as fake data-harvesting sites.
I did not receive my OTP. What should I do? +
SMS delivery can be delayed when the portal is busy. Do not request several OTPs in a row — that can block delivery. Use "Resend OTP" once, wait a few minutes, check you have signal and that you typed the correct registered number, look in your SMS inbox, and restart your phone if needed. If the number is no longer yours, you must change the linked number first.
The portal says my application could not be found. Why? +
This usually means the ID number or cellphone number you entered does not match SASSA’s records, or there is no SRD application for that ID. Re-check every digit of your ID and use the exact phone number from your original application. If you have never applied, you need to submit a new application first.
My registered phone number has changed — how do I log in? +
You must update the linked number before you can receive an OTP on a new phone. On srd.sassa.gov.za use the contact / mobile-details update option, enter your SA ID, select a reason and complete the identity check. After that the OTP will go to your new number.
Does logging in or changing my details cost anything? +
No. Applying for the SRD grant, checking your status and changing your details on srd.sassa.gov.za are all completely free. Anyone asking for payment, your PIN or your OTP to "log you in" or "release your grant" is running a scam.
