Frequently asked questions

How much tax will I pay on R30,000 per month in 2026/27?+
R30,000 a month is R360,000 a year. Annual tax before rebates is R74,952, less the R17,820 primary rebate leaves R57,132 PAYE. Add UIF of R177.12 and your monthly net (before medical, RA or pension contributions) is around R25,062.
What's the tax threshold for 2026/27?+
For taxpayers under 65, you pay no income tax up to R99 000 per year. From 65 it rises to R153 250, and from 75 to R171 300.
How does the retirement contribution deduction work?+
You can deduct up to 27.5% of your remuneration as retirement contributions (pension fund, provident fund or retirement annuity), capped at R350,000 a year. The calculator applies this automatically once you enter your monthly contribution.
How does the medical aid tax credit work?+
For 2026/27, you get a tax credit of R364 per month each for the first two members on the scheme (you and one dependant), and R246 per month for each additional dependant. Enter the number of members in the calculator to apply.
Does this calculator handle a 13th cheque or bonus?+
No — bonus payments are typically taxed at the marginal rate of your annualised income. Enter your full annual package (12 months + bonus) using the annual mode to see the impact, or use SARS's eFiling for a precise once-off calculation.
Is UIF capped?+
Yes. UIF is 1% of your remuneration, but only up to a ceiling of R17 712 per month — so the maximum UIF you can pay is R177,12 per month. Your employer pays a matching 1%.
