Editorial Policy

How we research, write, fact-check and update the content on MoneyToday. Last reviewed: May 2026.

Editorial independence

MoneyToday is editorially independent. No external party β€” advertiser, affiliate partner, or commercial sponsor β€” has a say in what we cover or how we cover it. We do not accept paid placements disguised as editorial content. Where commercial relationships exist (affiliate links, AdSense), they are disclosed.

Sourcing standards

Every figure, fee, rate or rule cited on MoneyToday must come from one of:

  • A primary source (government gazette, regulator publication, official agency website)
  • A named operator (bank, insurer, lender, dealer) with a date of consultation
  • Two independent secondary sources where primary data isn't available

Where the source is a single industry estimate (e.g. AA running-cost methodology), this is stated explicitly.

Fact-checking

Every article goes through a structured fact-check before publication: cross-referencing figures against primary sources, verifying named operators are still trading, and confirming any quoted regulator registration numbers (FSP, NCR, NCRDC, etc.).

Updates and "stale" content

South African financial rules and figures change frequently β€” SARS tax tables, repo rate, grant amounts, fuel-related travel rates, lender fees. We:

  • Display a "last updated" date on every guide.
  • Review high-impact pages (SARS rates, SASSA amounts, repo-linked content) within 30 days of any rule change.
  • Audit lower-priority content on a 12-month rolling cycle.
  • Flag pages that haven't been reviewed in 18 months for retirement, archive or refresh.

Corrections

We correct errors as soon as they are flagged. Material corrections (anything affecting numbers, eligibility, or recommended actions) are noted at the bottom of the affected page with the date of correction and the nature of the change. Minor typos and grammar fixes are made silently.

To flag a correction, see our contact page.

YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) content

Topics that can affect a reader's health, finances or legal standing β€” loans, debt, grants, tax β€” are written conservatively:

  • We do not give personal advice; only general information.
  • We name only NCR-registered lenders, FSCA-authorised advisors and SAACA-accredited dealers.
  • We flag scams and high-cost products explicitly, with red-flag checklists.
  • Affiliate placements never appear in scam warnings or "watch out for" sections.

AI use

MoneyToday uses generative AI tools to assist with research, summarisation and drafting. Every article is reviewed, fact-checked and signed off by a human editor before publication. We never publish AI-generated text without human review of figures, sources and recommendations.
