About

About MoneyToday

MoneyToday is an independent South African money publication. We write practical, sourced guides for the financial decisions South Africans actually face β€” SASSA, banking, loans, salaries, and the rest.

What we cover

South African personal finance gets two kinds of coverage online: glossy lifestyle pages aimed at the wealthy, and SEO churn full of half-truths. We try to be the middle option β€” clear writing about money decisions that matter to most South Africans:

  • SASSA grants: SRD, Old Age, Disability, Child Support and the application & appeals process
  • Loans: personal lending, bad-credit options, and the scams in this space
  • Banking: branch codes, digital bank reviews, FNB & Capitec how-tos
  • Coins & collectibles: realistic prices, not WhatsApp myths
  • Salaries: SANDF, SAPS, teachers, nurses, doctors
  • Free calculators: AA rates, PAYE take-home, loans, bonds

How we source our content

Every figure on this site traces to a primary source:

  • SARS β€” Government Gazette publications and the SARS website for tax rates, thresholds, and travel allowances.
  • SASSA β€” sassa.gov.za official notices and srd.sassa.gov.za for grant amounts and payment schedules.
  • SARB β€” The South African Reserve Bank for repo rate, prime rate and credit market data.
  • NCR β€” National Credit Regulator for lender registration verification and consumer protection rules.
  • DPSA β€” Department of Public Service & Administration for public-sector salary scales.
  • SAACA-accredited coin dealers β€” for collectibles pricing.

Pages have a "last updated" date at the top. Anything older than 12 months is flagged for review.

How we make money

MoneyToday is supported by display advertising (Google AdSense) and by affiliate links to financial product comparison pages. We never accept payment to write favourable coverage of a specific product, and we don't have undisclosed sponsorships.

When we include a link to a financial product or lender, we may earn a commission if you click through and take up the offer. The price you pay does not change, and the commission does not influence our editorial rating. Our comparison tables rank products on objective criteria, not commission.

What we are not

MoneyToday is not a financial services provider.

  • Β· We do not give personal financial advice.
  • Β· We do not arrange loans, insurance, investments or medical aid.
  • Β· We are not registered with the FSCA, NCR or any other regulator.
  • Β· Information on this site is general, not tailored to your situation.
  • Β· For personal advice, consult an FSCA-registered advisor or NCR-registered debt counsellor.
