What is the Standard Bank Gold Credit Card?

Standard Bank Gold is the mass-affluent step in a six-tier credit card lineup (Blue, Gold, Titanium, Platinum, World Citizen, World Elite). It pairs a R64/month total cost with the option to bolt on UCount Rewards (R20/month) for partner cashback.

The card is a Mastercard — Standard Bank distinguishes itself with the broadest digital wallet support of any SA bank: Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Garmin Pay and Fitbit Pay are all native. SBG Mobile Tap to Pay turns your phone into a contactless reader.

The key trade-off vs FNB Aspire or Absa Gold: Gold does not include free airport lounge access — that's reserved for Titanium tier upwards. Gold cardholders can redeem UCount points for Bidvest Premier visits instead.

Interest rates and the NCA cap

Standard Bank Gold offers a floor of prime − 0.25% — the lowest published floor of any major SA credit card. At the current 10.25% prime, the lowest effective rate is around 10.00% for the strongest applicants.

The ceiling is the National Credit Act maximum: (repo × 2.2) + 10% = 24.85% per annum at the current 6.75% repo rate. Standard Bank prices each applicant within that range based on credit score, income and existing debts.

The interest-free window is up to 55 days, only if the full statement balance is paid by the due date. Cash advances accrue interest from day one with no interest-free window, and attract an additional cash advance fee.

How does Standard Bank Gold compare to Standard Bank Blue? +
Blue has the same R40 service fee but no monthly card fee, so it costs R40/month total. Both share the R5,000 minimum income and R250k credit limit ceiling. The functional difference: Gold positions for UCount Rewards optimisers; Blue is the cheapest no-frills option in Standard Bank's range.

At Tier 5, Gold earns 1% on credit card spend, R10/litre at Caltex, and up to 20% on "Choose Your Own Rewards" partners. Points value: 1 UCount point = R0.10. UCount is opt-in at R20/month.

Not free. Standard Bank confirms lounge access starts at Titanium upwards. Gold cardholders can redeem UCount points for Bidvest Premier lounge visits. Titanium gets 6 free Bidvest visits + 6 Fluent Lounge; Platinum 12 + 12; World Citizen unlimited (with R20k monthly spend).
