Older Persons Grant

R2,400 (R2,420 if 75+)

Aged 60+, SA citizen / permanent resident / refugee, income under R96,840 (single) or R193,680 (married).

  • 13-digit South African ID
  • Proof of residence (utility bill, affidavit)
  • Marriage certificate if married

Disability Grant

R2,400

Aged 18–59 with medical proof of disability, means-test compliant.

Child Support Grant

R580 per child

Primary caregiver of a child under 18; income under R67,200 (single) or R134,400 (married).

Foster Child Grant

Care Dependency Grant

Parent/caregiver of a child under 18 needing permanent full-time care.

Unemployed 18–59, income under R624/month, no UIF/NSFAS/other SASSA grant.

  • SA ID, refugee permit or asylum-seeker permit
  • Cellphone for OTP
  • Banking details (your own account)

SASSA grants are free. If anyone asks for payment to "fast-track" or "guarantee" an application, it's a scam. Report to 0800 701 701.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I apply for SASSA grants in person? +
Visit your nearest SASSA Local Office — there are over 380 nationally. Find your closest one at sassa.gov.za under "Offices". The SRD grant is online-only.
How long does a SASSA application take to process? +
SRD: 7–14 days. Other grants: 21–90 days, depending on the grant type and whether medical assessments are needed.
Do I need an appointment? +
No, SASSA offices accept walk-ins but arrive early — queues form before 7am. Bring all required documents to avoid a wasted trip.
Can someone else apply on my behalf? +
Yes, if you are bedridden, hospitalised or have a permanent disability. The procurator must bring their own ID and a doctor's confirmation.
