Some sources additionally reference an "Income Kicker" boost for clients receiving a salary into the main GoTyme transactional pocket, which can lift the effective rate further — verify in-app at the time of opening.

How the 10% bonus tier works

The bonus is opt-in per pocket. While active:

  • Any withdrawal of the full pocket balance requires 10 days of notice in-app before the funds release.
  • Partial withdrawals are not allowed. If you withdraw part of the balance, the pocket reverts to the standard tier rate.
  • The bonus rate is paid retrospectively across the period you held the bonus; you do not have to maintain it forever.
  • You can run some pockets at the bonus tier and others at the standard tier within the same account.
The "up to 10%" framing matters: 10% is the maximum and applies only with full opt-in to the notice + no-partial-withdrawals condition. Most casual GoalSave users will see the standard 6% tier in practice. The realistic headline for SEO-aware writers is "6% standard, 10% bonus".

Account structure and limits

  • Up to 20 GoalSave pockets per account — name them ("Holiday", "Emergency", "Car deposit", etc.)
  • R1 minimum per pocket. No minimum monthly deposit.
  • R250,000 aggregate cap across all pockets. The cap is hard — once you hit it, you need a different product for additional savings.
  • Instant transfer from any pocket back to your GoTyme transactional pocket (standard tier).
  • No monthly fees on GoalSave; the main GoTyme account also has low transactional fees.
  • CODI-protected up to R100,000 per depositor per bank, like any SA-licensed bank.

Beyond the R250k cap: GoTyme Fixed Deposit

If you have more than R250,000 to save, or want a higher rate than GoalSave's 6% standard tier, GoTyme's Fixed Deposit is the obvious next step. It pays the highest 12-month rate in the SA market (RateCompare May 2026 ranking).

Frequently asked questions

What is TymeBank / GoTyme GoalSave? +
GoalSave is a tiered savings pocket inside a TymeBank (now GoTyme Bank) account. You can create up to 20 separately named savings pockets per account. Each pocket starts earning at the day-1 rate (around 4%–5%), automatically stepping up to 6% after day 90. An optional bonus tier pays up to 10% if you opt in to a 10-day withdrawal notice and avoid partial withdrawals.
How does the 10% TymeBank GoalSave bonus work? +
You opt into the bonus on a specific pocket inside the GoTyme app. While the bonus is active: (1) any withdrawal of the full balance requires 10 days of notice, and (2) partial withdrawals are not allowed — you must withdraw the whole pocket. The rate is paid retrospectively across the entire period you held the bonus. If you breach the rules (e.g. make a partial withdrawal), the pocket reverts to the standard tier rate.
What is the maximum I can save in GoalSave? +
R250,000 in total across all GoalSave pockets per account. If you have R200k in one pocket, you can only put R50k more across the remaining 19 pockets. For balances above R250,000, you need a separate product — GoTyme's 12-month Fixed Deposit at 8.75% nominal is the obvious next step.
Has TymeBank really been renamed to GoTyme? +
Yes — the rebrand to GoTyme Bank completed on 22 January 2026. The banking licence, customer account numbers, balances and transaction history are unchanged. Existing customers simply download the new GoTyme Bank app to continue. The TymeBank brand has been retired in South Africa, though tymebank.co.za still resolves and redirects.
How does GoalSave compare to Capitec Live Better Savings? +
GoalSave is structurally similar but pays meaningfully more: 6% standard vs Capitec's estimated 3.25% Live Better Savings; 10% bonus vs no equivalent at Capitec. The main GoalSave constraint is the R250,000 aggregate cap. For balances under R250k where you want a tiered savings pocket, GoalSave wins on rate. Capitec's advantage is the wider Capitec ecosystem (Live Better cashback, broader product range).
How does GoalSave compare to GoTyme's Fixed Deposit? +
GoalSave is instant-access (or 10-day notice for the bonus); Fixed Deposit locks for 3–36 months but pays more. Standard tier GoalSave is 6%; GoTyme Fixed Deposit pays 8.75% nominal at 12 months and 9.75% at 36 months. For money you genuinely won't need for a year+, the Fixed Deposit pays ~270 basis points more.
Does GoTyme offer a Tax-Free Savings Account? +
As of May 2026, GoTyme does not appear to offer a dedicated TFSA product. GoalSave is a regular taxable savings vehicle — interest above the SARS exemption (R23,800 under 65, R34,500 over 65) is taxed at your marginal rate. For tax-free savings consider African Bank, Absa, FNB or Sygnia.
