Frequently asked questions

Does Momentum Health really start from R645?+
Yes, but only for the absolute lowest income band on the Ingwe plan (household income below R1,550/month). The Ingwe contribution range is R645 to R4,546 depending on income band. Most working-age members pay R1,425 to R3,576/month. R645 is the floor, not the typical rate.
What is Multiply and how does it work?+
Multiply is Momentum's wellness rewards programme — a separate product priced independently of the medical scheme. Multiply Premier members can save up to 60% on life insurance premiums, get HealthReturns cashback (up to R1,000 per adult per month into a HealthSaver account), and access free GP visits. The 2026 release adds a Wellness Booster for older employer-group members focused on chronic-risk reduction.
What is HealthSaver?+
HealthSaver is a Momentum savings vehicle separate from your medical scheme — you can use it for medical scheme contributions, gym membership, over-the-counter medication, optometry and other healthcare expenses. HealthReturns cashback is paid into HealthSaver, where it earns interest. Effectively a tax-efficient supplementary health spending pot outside the scheme.
Why is Momentum's 2026 increase so high?+
At 9.9%, Momentum has the highest weighted 2026 contribution increase among the open-scheme majors — 0.5 percentage points above its 2025 increase of 9.4%. The scheme has not publicly explained the gap to its peers (Discovery 7.2%, Medshield 7.5%) beyond pointing to utilisation patterns in its book. The newly-won administration contract for Bonitas (from 2026) materially scales Momentum's book.
